Northern California jeweler Simma Chester is largely self-taught in addition to having studied metal working techniques. At a point of exploration in her creative career, the curious artist traveled, ending up settling in Spain. She lived simply in an ancient stone house, absorbing the culture around her, especially their ethnic personal adornment. During this time, the artist studied tapestry weaving and through working and trading in Spain, Tunisia and India. Once back in the states, she was inspired to open a bead store. Each of her pieces of adornment is unique. She drew upon imagery gleaned from travels and exploration, revealing her experiences through the beads and stones chosen, her metal work and jewelry skills.
