After twenty-five years of representing artists and the handmade at Freehand, Carol Sauvion felt the need to increase awareness of the fine crafts that are being made in America and the community of people who are dedicated to a life in this unique art form. Craft in America is a multi-faceted project that has produced a film series for PBS, a book that serves as an introduction to the history of the handmade in America since the Industrial Revolution, a web site that provides a place to learn more about craft, and now, a study center open to the public.
